Lorex app, Lorex Cloud and Lorex login: which one to use and how to fix common problems

Lorex does not have one app, and it does not have one cloud. It has several apps, and each one works with its own recorders and cameras. The word Cloud shows up in an app, a website and a subscription, and they are not the same thing. Pick the wrong app and your recorder will not add. This guide names the current Lorex apps, explains what Lorex Cloud means, says which login goes with which app, covers your options on a PC and goes through the usual problems. Lorex has also renamed apps over the years, so older guides may use names that no longer match the App Store.

01

Which Lorex app do you need

Lorex says each of its app families has its own product line. The app you need depends on your recorder or camera. Lorex's pages list these apps.

  • Lorex Connect: Lorex's newest app. Lorex describes it as built for the latest Lorex security products, with AI features. It covers wired and Wi-Fi products, shows up to 4 cameras at once and is for phones only, on iOS and Android. Lorex's help pages put its U, V and X series recorders and cameras here. You need a Lorex Connect account to use it.
  • Lorex Classic: the app that Lorex's apps page says was previously known as the Lorex App. It is for the Lorex Fusion product line, and Lorex lists other compatible recorders and cameras in its chart. It covers wired and Wi-Fi products, is aimed at home use, and runs on Android, iOS, PC and Mac.
  • Lorex Pro: Lorex's professional app for commercial and small business systems, for wired systems only. It shows up to 16 cameras at once and runs on Android, iOS, PC and Mac. Lorex says it works with its N88 series recorders and is optimised for the N884 series. Other models are not guaranteed to work, although some recorders that use Lorex Cloud may work with limited features.
  • Lorex Cloud: the older app. Lorex describes it as used by older professional NVRs, and its apps page says it is for remote viewing of compatible security systems. Its Google Play listing says it is compatible with select Lorex security systems and HD Active Deterrence solutions, and asks you to check the product documentation to make sure you download the correct Lorex app.
  • Lorex Cirrus: for Lorex's wire-free NVR security systems.

02

What Lorex Cloud means

Lorex uses the word cloud for several different things. Mixing them up is the usual reason people end up on the wrong login or the wrong plan.

  • The Lorex Cloud app. This is the older app described above. You add a recorder to it with the recorder's Device ID.
  • The Lorex Cloud website at cloud.lorex.com. Lorex's help pages use it for subscriptions. For Lorex Connect Cloud+, it is a web portal where you can subscribe and manage plans. Lorex says there is no separate cloud login: you sign in with the same email and password as your Lorex Connect app account, and you pick the same region you chose when you signed up in the app. For the Classic app's cloud storage, Lorex calls it the Subscription Management Portal and says to sign in with the same credentials as your Lorex app account or your Lorex.com account.
  • Lorex Connect Cloud+. A subscription for the Lorex Connect app. Lorex says it saves smart motion events to the cloud, not continuous 24/7 footage, and records up to 2K even from 4K cameras. The camera still records locally at its full resolution. Plans are a Single-Camera Plan for one camera and a Multi-Camera Plan for up to 10 cameras at one location in one region, each monthly or yearly.
  • Lorex Cloud Storage for the Classic app. A separate subscription for devices that use the Lorex Classic app. Lorex says the Classic cloud plan and Lorex Connect Cloud+ are separate services, and that a subscription cannot be shared between devices that use different apps. The Classic app needs version 5.1 or newer, and your active plans show under Settings, then Lorex Cloud Storage.
  • The Lorex Cloud Client. Desktop software for Windows and macOS, described in the PC section below. It signs in with details from the recorder, not with a cloud account.
  • Before you subscribe to Connect Cloud+: Lorex says it currently covers a short list of cameras, the IC101, IC501, FL301 and SL301, each on a minimum firmware version, with the Lorex Connect app at version 1.3.1 or above on iPhone and Android. It says recorders and wired cameras are not supported. Where you subscribe is where you manage: subscriptions bought in the Lorex Connect app are managed in the app, and subscriptions bought through the web portal are managed on the web portal.

03

How to be sure which one your recorder uses

Lorex says not all Lorex products work together, because its systems can use different apps, recorder platforms, camera technologies and firmware. It tells you to check your model before you buy, or before you download an app. Use the model number on the label of your recorder.

Lorex has a Product Compatibility Chart on its website at lorex.com/pages/compatibility, and its Mobile Apps and Software Downloads page links to a model search. Your quick start guide and manual also name the app. Only install apps from the App Store, Google Play or Lorex's own website.

04

Old names you may still see

Lorex has renamed apps, and older guides and videos use the old names.

  • Lorex Home: the older name of the app now called Lorex Classic. Lorex's App Store listing for Lorex Classic is the same listing that was called Lorex (previously Lorex Home). Some Lorex pages still use the name Lorex Home. Lorex's Lorex Pro setup page, for example, says Lorex Home is used by smart home devices, Fusion recorders and analog DVRs.
  • Lorex App: Lorex's apps page says Lorex Classic was previously known as the Lorex App.
  • FLIR Cloud: older systems used this app. Dahua's wiki describes a move to Lorex Cloud, where the FLIR Cloud app shows a prompt that it will be replaced by Lorex Cloud, and your devices are imported. If the import prompt does not appear, you add the device by hand in Lorex Cloud.

05

Add your recorder to the app

Before you start, the recorder must be powered on and connected to your router with an Ethernet cable. Then follow the steps for your app.

  • Lorex Classic: download the app from the App Store or Google Play, open it and create an account. Tap the plus icon and scan your recorder's QR code. The QR code is on the recorder next to the Device ID. You can also see the Device ID by pressing the Info button on the recorder.
  • Lorex Connect: create an account with your name, country, email and password, then enter the 6-digit code Lorex emails you. Tap Add device and choose Recorder. On the same network, the app finds the recorder by itself and needs Bluetooth permission. If your phone and recorder are on different networks, choose the option that says your recorder is on a different network and scan the QR code on the recorder's screen. For an X series NVR, that screen is under Main Menu, Settings, System, Lorex Connect App. Turn off any VPN on your phone while you set up.
  • Lorex Pro: keep the phone and recorder on the same Wi-Fi network and allow the app to use Local Network access. If Search on Network does not find the recorder, use Scan Device ID instead, which reads the QR code.
  • Lorex Cloud: you need the recorder's Device ID. It is on the side panel of the recorder next to the QR code. It is also under right-click, then Info, on the recorder's screen, and in the Lorex Cloud app under Settings, then Device Info.

06

Lorex login: your account and your recorder are two logins

Two logins get mixed up. One is your Lorex account in the app, which you create with an email address. The other is the recorder's own username and password. The recorder's username is admin by default, and Lorex's manual for your model gives the default password. New passwords on Lorex recorders need 8 to 32 characters, with at least 2 of these types: lowercase, uppercase, numbers and special characters. Start with the account, then the recorder.

  • Lorex Connect account: you sign in with your email address, password and country. To create one, tap Create an account, enter your name, country, email address and password, accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then enter the 6-digit code Lorex emails you. On your first login you enter another 6-digit emailed code. Use the same email and region on cloud.lorex.com.
  • Forgot your Lorex Connect account password: on the login screen tap Log in, then Forgot Password. Enter your email and country, follow the two-step check, enter the 6-digit code sent to your email, set a new password and log in again.
  • Lorex Classic account (the Lorex app): Lorex says your Lorex account and your Lorex app account use the same email and password, so changing one changes the other. To reset it in the app, tap Forgot Password on the main login screen, enter your email and a new password, tap Get Activation Code, then enter the 6-digit code from your email. To reset it on the website, choose Recover Password on the Lorex login page, enter your email, then use the emailed code with a new password and choose Reset.
  • Lorex Classic recorder password: open the app, tap the settings icon above your recorder, tap the three dots, then Device Info, Device Password and Forgot device password. Enter the email address linked to your account and tap Send Reset Instructions. Lorex emails a temporary password, which you enter as the old password before you set a new one. Lorex says only the device owner can do this, not shared users.
  • Lorex Cloud app recorder password: collect the recorder's Device ID, a photo of the Device Info screen and a photo of the sticker with the serial and model number. Then follow Lorex's How to Reset Your NVR or DVR's Password process to get a temporary password, which is valid until the end of the day. You then set a new password on the recorder under Main Menu, then ACCOUNT, then User.
  • Lorex Pro: use the reset form at lorex.com/password-reset for a forgotten recorder password. Lorex Support reviews the request and sends reset instructions. The Lorex Pro app's own lock has no recovery. Lorex says to uninstall and reinstall the app, then add your recorder again.
  • Lorex Connect recorders: for a recorder such as the RN101, Lorex says to answer the security questions you set up, or reset through the Lorex Connect app. It also says that if the recorder is not linked to the app and you cannot answer the questions, access is lost for good, because Lorex Technical Support cannot reset, recover or bypass the password. Link your recorder to the app and save your answers.
  • Whichever app you use, do not look for password lists or unlock tools. Use these routes or contact Lorex Support.

07

Using Lorex on a PC

Lorex's apps page shows PC and Mac versions for Lorex Classic and Lorex Pro, and says Lorex Connect is for phones only. Lorex's Mobile Apps and Software Downloads page also lists the desktop software below. Which one suits your recorder depends on the model, so use Lorex's compatibility chart.

  • Lorex Client 13, for Windows. Mac users download Lorex Client 12.
  • Lorex VMS Client, for Windows and macOS.
  • Lorex Cloud Client, for Windows and macOS. Lorex says it is a way to reach the settings of many Lorex recorders from a computer, without a monitor on the recorder, and that up to 6 recorders can be connected at once. To log in, right-click the recorder's home screen, tap Info to find the details it asks for, and enter them on your computer. In the top right corner of the Cloud Client, Help Manual opens the user manual.

08

Common problems

  • The app will not add the recorder: a common cause is using the wrong app for that recorder, so check the compatibility chart first. Then check that the phone and recorder are on the same network, that the app has Local Network permission, and that any VPN on your phone is off.
  • Network Connection Failed: Lorex says this means the recorder is not communicating with your router. Check the Ethernet cable. Move it to another router port and power cycle the recorder by switching it off and unplugging it for about 30 seconds. If that fails, try a different cable and power cycle both the router and the recorder. On an LHV or LNR series recorder, go to Main Menu, Setting, Network, TCP/IP and set the mode to DHCP. Then check that your router lists the recorder as Active or Connected.
  • Cameras will not load in Lorex Pro: switch from Main Stream to Sub Stream, check that the recorder and cameras show Online in Device Settings, check your phone's connection, restart the recorder and update the app.
  • Play error, click to refresh (Lorex Classic, Wi-Fi cameras): tap the refresh icon. If it persists, force quit and reopen the app, or reinstall it. Unplug your modem and router for 5 seconds and plug them back in. Move the camera closer to the router.
  • No notifications in Lorex Pro: check that Push Notifications are on in Device Settings, that alerts are on for each camera, and that your phone allows notifications for the app.
  • Slow or stuttering remote video: Lorex's setup guide for its X series recorders asks for at least 6 Mbps of upload speed per 4K channel and 24 Mbps for the whole system, for remote viewing.
  • You cannot log in to Lorex Connect: check the country. The login asks for email, password and country, and for the website Lorex says to pick the same region you used when you signed up. A first login also needs the 6-digit code Lorex emails you.
  • You subscribed to Connect Cloud+ but see no recordings: Lorex says the most common cause is being signed in to a different account or region than the one you subscribed with. Check the camera is attached to the plan (Manage Cloud Storage in the app, or Manage Connected Devices on the web portal). Check the app is 1.3.1 or above and the camera is on the firmware Lorex lists.
  • A device is missing on cloud.lorex.com: Lorex says the portal shows the devices on your Lorex Connect account. Add or pair the device in the app first, then refresh the portal.

09

Using Lorex cameras with other software

Lorex says certain models of its DVRs, NVRs and IP cameras allow third-party RTSP streaming. Its help article gives the address format as rtsp://username:password@IP address:port/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0. The default port is 554. The channel is the camera number. A subtype of 0 is the main stream and 1 is the sub stream. Find the recorder's IP address under its Network menu or System Information. Lorex says viewing the stream over the internet means forwarding the RTSP port on your router. Software on the same network as the recorder does not need that. Check your model's support page to see whether it supports RTSP. Our RTSP and ONVIF guide explains both standards.

Questions

Questions, answered.

Which Lorex app do I use?

It depends on your recorder or camera. Lorex Connect is for its newest products, Lorex Classic for the Fusion line, Lorex Pro for professional N88 series recorders, Lorex Cloud for older professional NVRs and Lorex Cirrus for wire-free systems. Check your model number in Lorex's compatibility chart.

What is Lorex Cloud?

It is used for five things: an older Lorex app, the cloud.lorex.com website, the Lorex Connect Cloud+ subscription, cloud storage for the Classic app and the Lorex Cloud Client desktop software. Check which one a guide or a support page means before you follow it.

How do I log in to Lorex Cloud?

It depends on which one you mean. On cloud.lorex.com, use the same email, password and region as your Lorex Connect app account. For the Classic app's cloud storage, Lorex says to use your Lorex app account or Lorex.com account. The older Lorex Cloud app adds a recorder with its Device ID, and the Lorex Cloud Client signs in with details from the recorder's Info screen.

Does Lorex Connect Cloud+ record all day?

No. Lorex says it saves smart motion events to the cloud, not continuous 24/7 footage. Cloud recording is up to 2K, and the camera still records locally at its full resolution.

Can I use Lorex Connect Cloud+ with my Lorex recorder?

Lorex says recorders and wired cameras are not supported. Its current list is the IC101, IC501, FL301 and SL301 cameras, each with a minimum firmware version. Check Lorex's FAQ for the latest list.

What are the old names: Lorex Home, Lorex App and FLIR Cloud?

The App Store listing for Lorex Classic is the one that used to be called Lorex Home, and Lorex's apps page says Lorex Classic was previously known as the Lorex App. Dahua's wiki describes the FLIR Cloud app showing a prompt that it will be replaced by Lorex Cloud, with your devices imported across.

Is there a Lorex app for PC?

Lorex's apps page shows PC and Mac versions of Lorex Classic and Lorex Pro. Lorex also lists desktop software on its downloads page: Lorex Client 13 and Lorex Client 12, the VMS Client and the Cloud Client. Use the compatibility chart to see which fits your recorder.

Why does the app say my recorder is not supported?

Usually the recorder belongs to a different Lorex app. Lorex says its systems use different apps and recorder platforms, so check your model in the compatibility chart.

How do I reset a forgotten Lorex password?

First work out which password it is. For your account, use Forgot Password on the app's login screen, or Recover Password on the Lorex website. For a recorder, the route depends on the app, as set out above, and for the RN101 Lorex says its support cannot reset, recover or bypass the password. Set up the security questions and link the app when you install.

Next step

A phone app still needs someone to open it

Checking an app is still a person remembering to look. We build visual intelligence for the physical world. Our software runs on a Windows PC at your site and installs in 60 seconds. It works with cameras and recorders that offer a standard RTSP or ONVIF stream, and Lorex documents RTSP for certain models, so check your model's support page. It watches every camera for smoke and fire, people after hours in zones you mark, and a camera that has been covered. A second, larger model double-checks every event before you are alerted, and you get the photo on WhatsApp, Telegram or the Foreman app while it is still happening. Your recorder keeps recording as usual. Try it free for 7 days on up to 32 cameras, no card.
