How Foreman connects to a Hikvision recorder

Foreman pulls each camera's RTSP sub-stream straight from the Hikvision DVR/NVR on the local network, then runs detection on-site and verifies each alert in the cloud before it reaches the owner.

Foreman runs on a normal Windows PC on the same network as the recorder. It reads the camera's low-bandwidth sub-stream over RTSP, so it never slows down recording and needs no port-forwarding or router changes — outbound internet only.

Do I need Hik-Connect or a cloud account?

No. Foreman connects locally over RTSP on the site network, so it works even if the DVR has no cloud account or internet-facing port.
